"I really didn’t know how much I needed an IPSE wilderness walk until I had completed one and felt like a weight had been lifted. It wasn't just a walk, but a journey of reflection, surrounded by beautiful landscapes and beautiful people who by the end of the trip felt like family. Julia’s leadership was fantastic, she made me feel extremely comfortable, safe and confident and the activities she organised for us all along the route were perfectly placed. If you are looking for a trip that will help you reset and reconnect with yourself and nature this is it. I can't think of anything more therapeutic than walking and talking without expectation or pressure. I would do these trips weekly if i could!" (Jessica Beagent, Customer Aug 2017 - Dec 2019)
"I first met Julia 2 years ago on an amazing 4 day IPSE “Navigating Transitions’ walk in Norfolk. I wasn’t quite sure what I was letting myself in for to be honest, but I had a great time, walking, talking and laughing with other women whilst connecting with the landscape. Julia gently challenged us to mindfully explore ourselves and the natural environment whilst always helping us to feel safe. Since then, I’ve been on a well-being walk locally and also followed her online sessions when we could only walk alone during lockdown. Even a short walk with IPSE where Julia invites us to make connections on so many levels, brings lots of opportunity to find meaning, discovery and fun. Thankyou!" "I love walking, but I struggle to get out and enjoy walks on my own and I have very limited opportunity to do so with friends. As such, group walks are really important to me. They provide a date in the diary for me to look forward to, a commitment to myself to take that walk, but also a commitment to others, all of which helps me to attend. Additionally, as someone with various mental and physical health problems, although I know walking helps, sometimes I think that I 'should' be doing other things as my time and energy is precious. But of course, walking helps with my health and life management, I just sometimes struggle to remember that. So again, having these walks in my diary helps, as I book into them and I tell myself these walks are not only enjoyable, but helpful to my overall wellbeing.
With walks through IPSE Wilderness there's an extra important dimension too, as not only do we walk, but we talk and we listen. I love the structured aspect where we get a couple of minutes to talk to a partner about a given topic/question and that for that time our partners sole focus is on actively listening to us. It provides a safe, non-judgemental space for us to share however we feel, whatever we're thinking and to get some support and feedback on that, without the fear of unwanted advice, comparisons to others' situations or judgements. As the walk progresses and we get to talk and listen to others, I always feel that I'm building on each conversation I have and I come away feeling much more in tune to how I feel. Also, I not only get to enjoy nature and the benefits of simply walking, I also get specified time in my schedule to talk about myself and what's going on for me at that time, which is hugely helpful in my holistic self-care and health/life management.
I come away from IPSE Wilderness walks feeling refreshed, happy, validated, calm and relaxed, but also energised, optimistic, more confident in myself." (Amy MacMillan, customer March - Aug 2020)
